Ongoing since 2002, September 2011 update
Your Freemantle Councillors have been very hard at work supporting local residents in their fight to save the former Civil Service Ground which is is located at the end of Malmesbury road just behind St Marks School off of Shirley High Street.
Along with the majority of residents we feel this land should remain as a green, open space to prevent over development and more importantly maintain a crucial open space that provided enjoyment to many local residents and school pupils.
Once again this site should be opened up for local residents to use and we have fought this particular fight since 2002 when property developers looked to develop the land away from this ideal green open space.
As representatives of the Freemantle Ward we are leading the efforts by the City Council to acquire the site and therefore protect it for future generations - to date we are making excellent in roads and progress towards this particular goal.
In 2010 we were successful in securing OFFICIAL OPEN PARK STATUS for the site after a well prepared application to the council's planning panel.
