September 2011 update
Parents in Peartree Ward have long had to travel to other areas to find play equipment. Councillor Matt Jones is glad to report that this is now changing, with several areas benefiting from investment.
New equipment has been installed on Peartree Green, funded by money from a nearby new development. It has been designed to fit in sensitively with the surroundings, whilst being resistant to vandalism.
Consultation has started on replacement play equipment for Bracklesham Close. The response so far from local residents has been very good. This equipment will also be funded by money from nearby development.
Freemantle Common is a target for Peartree Conservatives. Freemantle Play Association had been campaigning for new equipment for some time, and we came close to having equipment installed last year. Unfortunately the previous government's recklessly promised funding had to be withdrawn.
All is not lost however, and Matt is meeting with the Council's leaders and partners to try and resurrect the plans. The challenge will be providing a play area that is fun to use, but is not at risk of vandalism and will not attract anti-social behaviour, and Matt is keen to ensure this happens.
