Raymond Mead
CONSERVATIVE COUNCILLOR FIRST ELECTED IN 2008
Ray Mead was born in Frimley, Surrey and grew up in the Surrey/Hampshire borders. He came to Southampton in 1995 as a student to the University to study French & Spanish. While at the University he began his public life working in the Central Library and volunteering for the City Council’s Economic Development unit. He took his first job at a local internet provider and from here his career developed in telecommunications, eventually working for several years in London for COLT Telecom, commuting from Southampton.
In 2002 Ray and his wife, Jennifer, moved to Beijing, China to work for Jiao Tong University as lecturers. This stay was cut short due to an outbreak of the SARS virus in the city which led to them making a rapid onward move to Sydney, Australia. During their time in Sydney, Ray worked as a project management consultant and they retained their property in Southampton. Upon their return in 2005, Ray started his own project management consultancy which, from its Winchester headquarters, now services many international clients on a global scale.
Ray now lives in Banister Park, Southampton and enjoys football, rugby, cricket, sailing and skiing as well as maintaining a healthy interest in the Arts and current affairs. His particular areas of interest in the City are Planning and Economic Development.
